Women In Trades AI is an AI-powered career guidance platform designed to help young women explore and understand careers in skilled trades through the real-life experiences of Australian women already working in those professions. For each trade, approximately ten women participate in comprehensive structured interviews covering their career journey, training and apprenticeships, everyday work, earnings, physical requirements, workplace culture, challenges, opportunities, work-life balance and career progression. Their collective experiences, supported by verified information about qualifications, employment pathways, workplace rights and available support, form a comprehensive knowledge base that represents both common themes and different individual experiences.
This knowledge is made accessible through an approachable, human-like AI guide representing each trade, for example, a woman carpenter who candidates can talk with privately and comfortably, 24 hours a day. Young women can ask anything they genuinely want to know, including questions they may feel uncomfortable asking a teacher, employer, careers adviser or tradesperson, and continue the conversation until they have a realistic understanding of whether the career is right for them. The initial proof of concept focuses on one trade and approximately ten Australian women, with the model designed to expand to ten and eventually 25 or more priority trades.
Women In Trades AI turns the real experiences of women already in the trades into practical, accessible and judgement-free guidance for the next generation of women considering joining them.
